The Toronto Blue Jays have placed right-handed starting pitcher Alec Manoa on the disabled list.
The Blue Jays announced on Sunday that they have optioned Manoa to the Rookie-level Florida Complex.
Manoa, who finished third in the American League Cy Young Award voting last year, has struggled this season. In 13 games and 58 innings pitched, he is 1-7 with a 6.36 ERA.스포츠토토
Manoa has been demoted to the minors.
The numbers are even worse. He has a 1.897 WHIP, 1.7 home runs, 6.5 walks and 7.4 strikeouts per nine innings.
The biggest problem is the walks. After allowing 51 walks in 196 2/3 innings last season, he’s allowed 42 this season. That’s the most in the majors.
The Blue Jays organization, which has been patient with him, finally pushed the button the day before in a home game against the Houston Astros, when he didn’t allow a single run and gave up a ton of hits.
Sending him to the rookie level instead of Triple-A means a regrouping. He will work on his disheveled stuff at the club’s training facility in Dunedin, Florida.
Toronto manager John Schneider told local media, including Sportsnet, that there is no timetable for when he will return. He added that he would bring him back “when he feels he’s ready.”
Manoa’s departure will force a rotation change for Toronto, which had been operating with five starting pitchers.
Bowden Francis, who was called up today, could be an alternative. In four starts and 15 2/3 innings for Triple-A Buffalo this season, Francis has a 3.45 ERA.
Toronto also welcomed back Chris Bassett from maternity leave and infielder Santiago Espinal from the disabled list with a hamstring injury.
Infielder Ernie Clement and right-hander Jay Jackson were sent back to Triple-A. On the 40-man roster, right-hander Zach Thompson was designated for assignment.
