The trade brings Hernandez back to the team he played for from 2015 to 2020. During that time, he was known as a “super utility” player, playing every position except catcher.
Since joining Boston, he has focused on three positions: shortstop, second base, and centre field.
This season, he is batting .222 with a .279 on-base percentage, .320 slugging percentage, six home runs and 31 RBIs in 86 games.
In 10 seasons in the major leagues, he is batting .238 with a .311 on-base percentage and .408 slugging percentage in 1003 games. He helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 2020.
In exchange for Hernandez, the Red Sox will receive two right-handed pitchers, Nick Robertson and Justin Hagenman.
