Ahn Ji-won, who is a varsity player despite being a freshman, started in right field and went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and one run scored to lead the team to victory. For the tournament, she batted 5-for-6 (18-for-10) with nine RBI, nine runs scored, one stolen base and a 1.322 OPS in six games. His stellar performance earned him the Most Valuable Player, Hitting, RBI, and Most Valuable Player awards.
In a postgame interview, Busan Go head coach Park Kye-won said, “She did an amazing job. Ahn Ji-won actually enrolled as a pitcher. She still wants to be a pitcher. However, the second and third-year pitchers are thick, so I suggested that she try hitting for a year to get a chance to play. Ahn Ji-won readily accepted, and that’s how we got here,” he laughed.
“I’m really happy to have won four titles on such a big stage,” said Ahn Ji-won, who added, “I played harder because my school has never won the Golden Lion before.”
Ahn Ji-won, who cites her speed, ability to make contact, and strong shoulders as her strengths, also cites Son as a role model. “I want to emulate Son’s hitting, focus, and strong shoulders,” she said.
“I also have good shoulders, but I feel like I’m not good enough to be a hitter,” she said, adding that she still wants to be a pitcher. As a pitcher, Shohei Ohtani (Angels) is my role model. I don’t think there is anyone who can pitch and hit as well as him, but I can do it. I will work hard and become as good as him,” she said.
