토토사이트The sport of baseball is getting a new club competition that will feature teams from multiple countries.
“The Baseball Champions League (BCL), a global club competition, is here,” World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) President Riccardo Fraccari said at a press conference in Mexico City, Mexico, today (12 June). Baseball fans around the world should be excited.”
According to the WBSC, the inaugural tournament will take place from 28 September to 1 October in Yucatan, Mexico.
Four teams will compete: Leones de Yucatán (Mexico), Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (American Independent League), Alajanes de Granma (Cuba) and Caimanes de Barranquilla (Colombia).
In the future, the WBSC will expand the competition to include the champions of the KBO, Major League Baseball (MLB), Nippon Baseball Organisation (NPB) and Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL).
“In the next few years, we will have tournaments on other continents to crown a world champion, and we will need the support of various leagues,” Prakari said.
With teams from countries such as South Korea, the United States, Japan, and Taiwan participating in the BCL, baseball could enjoy the same popularity as the Champions League in football.
South Korean clubs currently compete in the Asian Football Confederation Champions League (ACL), while European clubs, including Son Heung-min (31, Tottenham Hotspur) and Lee Kang-in (22, Paris Saint-Germain), compete in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).
